Check your prospective schools requirements before you register for the TOEFL

TOEFL, or The Test of English as a Foreign Language, is often taken by international students applying to US universities demonstrate their English-language proficiency.

However, for many undergraduate programs the TOEFL may not be required or you may be able to get a waiver, so do check into whether you actually need to take this test before you register for it.

In some cases the TOEFL is not required:  Harvard for example does not require you to take it

In some case you do not need to take the TOEFL if you SAT 1 crtical reading score is above a certain marke: For example Cornell University does not require you to take the TOEFL if you score about 670 in the critical reading section of the SAT 1.

In other cases, you do not need to take the TOEFL if you are an international student, but study at an English medium school: For example, Dartmouth will waive the TOEFL requirement if you study in an English medium school.
