Why I chose to go to University of Ottawa?

I have always been interested in politics so going to law school in the nation’s capital really appealed to me. There was also the fact that Ottawa is such a beautiful city (which explains why people live there even though the temperature can fall to minus 40 degrees Celsius in the winter!). My cousin had done her undergrad in Ottawa so I had visited there many times and felt comfortable moving there. I also wanted to learn to speak French and I knew it would be a good place to learn the language as the entire city is bilingual. The University of Ottawa law school is the only law school in North America that teaches both civil law and common law under the same roof. Although I was not in the civil law stream, I liked the fact that the school had that unique distinction. I also liked that the classes were uniquely international and political in flavour because Ottawa is the nation’s capital and has access to really interesting professors and academics.

What University of Ottawa can offer students, that you won’t read about on its website?

Ottawa is a very cosmopolitan city considering its small size. There is a lot to do outside the university. The amazing galleries and museums really appealed to me. I also love the sense of history the city offers and the fact that the parliament buildings and Supreme Court are right down the street from the university. Because it is a tourist destination, there is an abundance of great restaurants, bars and live entertainment. Although the University of Ottawa is big, I would not characterize Ottawa as a university town – there is plenty that Ottawa offers, besides its schools
